Learn a little more about Bangkok's Main Districts
THE SUKHUMVIT AREA
The centre of Bangkok can be divided mainly into four main entities (Sukhumvit Road, Sathorn/Silom, Ratchadapisek Road, Siam/Pahonyothin Road) which meet each other by several roads and highways, but mainly through public transport with the BTS (air metro).
In Bangkok, Sukhumvit Road extends over about fifteen kilometres and has twelve BTS stations. This avenue is famous for tourists who like to venture there but also for expatriates who often choose to live there.
The avenue is very lively day and night along its entire length but offers many quiet and peaceful places when you go deeper into the sois (streets). This avenue, under its effervescent appearance, conceals many hidden things that only time will allow to discover, such as restaurants and art galleries or streets with certain charms.
Sukhumvit Road can be seen as a city within the city as this great district lacks nothing, everything is there. Indeed, all along the avenue, you will find apartments and stand houses, shopping centres of imposing sizes, restaurants that cook dishes from all over the world, trendy bars and nightclubs, hospitals with European standards, international schools and many companies that have their headquarters there.
SATHORN ET SILOM
Sathorn Road and Silom Road are two parallel avenues, located south of Bangkok. These two streets are emblematic of Bangkok's history as they combine to concentrate all the city's synergy. Sathorn is known as the main business district, embassies and one of the most popular residential areas in the Thai capital, while Silom Road combines nightlife, culinary delights and shopping ideas (mall, street market). These two streets are perfectly complementary in that they are close to each other to offer a wide range of activities, accommodation and atmospheres. [Neighborhood-Sathorn-Silom]
Sathorn and Silom streets are also very influential throughout the southern part of Bangkok, thanks in particular to the BTS and MRT line which opens the area at several stations. After passing Silom and Sathorn Road, the BTS line continues on to Thonburi, on the other side of the Chao Phraya River, making access to Sathon Road very easy for thousands of people living near urban transport.
From the intersection of Asoke on Sukhumvit Road, the MRT (underground metro) follows Ratchadapisek Road almost all along its length[Ratchadapisek] before taking Latprao Road to reach Chatuchak Park. The advantage of the MRT is that it directly opens Sukhumvit Road, but also Sathorn and Silom Road, making Ratchadapisek Road an ideal place to stay while being close to all the important districts of Bangkok.
The various districts along Ratchadapisek Avenue are recent and in full development, precisely thanks to this MRT line which has considerably boosted this part of the city in recent years. New condominiums are emerging regularly and ambitious projects are emerging, such as Praram 9, which will become a leading business and residential centre in the capital, or the upcoming opening of the new Suan Lum Night Bazaar, near the MRT Latprao station.
SIAM & PAHONYOTHIN
Just before the beginning of Sukhumvit Road is the Ploenchit district. It is at this point that the part of Bangkok that follows the[Quartier-de-Siam] skytrain from Ploenchit station to its northern end, Mo Chit station, begins. The ten stations that make up this complex offer different neighbourhoods, each with its own particularities.
Ploenchit and Chidlom remain, in the heart of Bangkok, a luxury haven, both for the commercial spaces that adjoin these districts and for the luxury apartments and hotels that have settled there. As for the BTS stop in Siam, it is the main crossroads of public transport with the two BTS lines that meet there but above all the centre of commercial spaces with many major malls around the skytrain.
A little further north is Victory Monument, a huge crossroads that is full of life at all hours with its night markets, street vendors and small shops. Two BTS stops away, the Ari district stands out for its European city centre atmosphere and its avant-garde atmosphere.
